Program Levels

During each session, children will be assessed on their progress. Prior to the commencement of their next session, each child will receive a level assessment informing parents which level of the new session they will start in. Please be advised that this is only an indication and all competencies need to be considered when receiving the new swimming level - therefore please be aware that these may not always correlate.

The guide below is a summary of what children need to achieve to move onto the next level.

Infant classes
Introduce your little one to swimming in a bright and happy environment. Our infant classes build water familiarisation and confidence though the use of songs and games with activities dependent on child’s development. These classes are beneficial for both children and parents/carers and give the opportunity to explore and feel confident around the water with their children.

Wonder 1 ½-hour lesson- Program Pool (6-13 months approx.)

Wonder 2 ½-hour lesson- Program Pool (12-36 months approx.)

Wonder 3 ½ hour lesson- Program Pool (2.5yrs-4yrs approx.)

Transition level for children out of having a parent or carer in water.
Aim – children to be comfortable in the water on their own
Skills

  • Able to hold breath with face fully submerged (approx. 5 seconds)
  • With assistance back float with board for 10 seconds
  • With a kick board demonstrate kicking action
  • Submerge from instructor to edge in a superman position
  • Superman float with board for 5 seconds
  • Assisted back float through the water
  • Initiate own submersion from standing position to wall

Active D1 ½ hour lesson- Program Pool (3ysr-5yrs)
Class Ratio 1:4
Skills

  • Hold breath for approx. 10 seconds with face fully submerged
  • Superman float for 10 seconds
  • Back float for 10 seconds (may be assisted)
  • Kick on front with kick board for 5 metres
  • Kick on back with kick board for 5 metres
  • With assistance, submerge in waist deep water and pick up an object from bottom of the pool.

Active 1 ½ hour lesson - Program Pool (5yrs-8yrs)

Skills

  • Demonstrate bubble, bubble, breath action.
  • Streamline float for 3 metres and recover to secure position
  • Back float and recover to secure position
  • Front rocket and kick 5 metres unassisted
  • Back kick for 5 metres
  • 6 kicks change arms
  • Demonstrate backstroke 6 kicks change arm land drill
  • Submerge in waist depth water, pick up ring from bottom
  • Complete an independent swim around

Active D2 ½ hour lesson - Program Pool (5yrs-8yrs)
Class Ratio 1:4
Skills

  • Demonstrate bubble, bubble, breath action in a streamlined position 5 metres
  • Front float 5 seconds, roll into back float for 10 seconds, recover to side
  • Staggered arm kicking on front for 7 metres
  • Staggered arm kicking on back for 7 metres
  • Swim 7m freestyle with correct technique
  • 6 kicks change arm backstroke for 7 metres
  • Swim through submerged obstacle

Active 2 ½ hour lesson - Program Pool  (5yrs-9yrs)

Skills

  • Demonstrate treading water sculling action, supporting body in upright position.
  • Demonstrate treading water leg action using flotation aid for support.
  • Swim 10 metres freestyle with side breathing
  • Swim 10 metres backstroke with correct body position
  • Demonstrate breaststroke legs float with one slow kick
  • Demonstrate breaststroke arms with pull buoy 5 metres
  • Submerge and recover an object
  • Demonstrate a crouch dive (may be assisted)

Active D3 ½ hour lesson - 25m Pool
Class Ratio 1:5
Skills

  • Perform a slide in entry from deep water and exit from deep water
  • Float on the front and back in deep water without instructor assistance
  • Scull head first on their back
  • Swim 15 metres freestyle with bilateral side breathing
  • Swim 15 metres backstroke with continuous actions
  • Breaststroke kick for 10 metres with correct technique
  • Breaststroke arms for 10 metres with pull buoy
  • Demonstrate standing dive from wet deck

Active 3 ½ hour lesson - 25m Pool
Class Ratio 1:6
Skills

  • Demonstrate dive in from bulk head
  • Demonstrate a forward somersault
  • Skill head first on the back in a streamlined body position
  • Swim 25 metres freestyle using correct technique
  • Swim 25 metres backstroke using correct technique
  • Swim 15 metres survival backstroke using correct technique
  • Demonstrate 15 metres breaststroke using correct technique
